Abstract: The International Criminal Court's unprecedented ruling to arrest the Sudanese president for crimes against humanity is a step further in advancing the doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P). However, in the global arena of competing state interests, the step forward is beset by a number of obstacles. Nonetheless, the implications on Asia are significant.
