Abstract: It is an empirical study examining the existence and degree of scale economies of Taiwanese banks. The results is generated using an econometric model called Translog cost function, with data based on eight of the top ten Taiwanese banks for the period for 1991-98. Results show that Taiwanese banks are scale ineffiecient which may address our concern of whether they are ready for the challenge ahead.
