Abstract: This study attempts to establish a negative relationship between corporate governance and cost of equity. The focus is on the emerging markets in the Southeast Asian region. A negative but insignicant relationship is found between corporate governance and cost of equity. The component, "independence" is found to be most significant and influential in lowering the cost of equity estimates.
