Abstract: This paper discusses the main motivations that drive research analysts to generate overly optimistic reports and subsequently fail to warn the investing public of upcoming declines in the subject companies. It also examines methods to reduce the conflicts of interest, and consequently, improve the overall efficiency of the capital market.
