Abstract: Yolk–shell spheres as nanoreactors: Single-crystalline LiMn2O4 and LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 nanocrystals have been prepared by using yolk–shell spheres as nanoreactors to confine the size of the nanocrystals to a range of 14–19 nm (see scheme). These nanocrystals were subsequently employed as cathode materials and showed high lithium-ion storage capacities and stable charge–discharge cycling, especially at high current densities.
